Cassie
In August 2022 a young pup was in need of a forever home. She was less than a year old and had been living on the streets surviving on insects and anything else she could catch. She was taken to the Humane Society in Seminole and then fostered by one of their members when her forever family heard about her.
Her mum and dad had been looking for a companion for Darwin as he had been depressed following the death of his older brother, Huxley. He traveled to Earlsboro with his mum to meet Cassie and they bonded immediately despite the discrepancy in their ages! Darwin was seven years old and Cassie not even twelve months old. They love to chase one another and wrestle! Darwin now has a new lease on life and Cassie adores him. He has helped teach her good manners – such as not breaking the fence to wander the neighborhood stealing shoes from neighbors’ porches and bringing them home!
Cassie has a sunny nature and sees everyone she meets, including other dogs, as friends. She definitely knows her own mind. She made it very clear, by hiding under her parents’ bed, that, like her older brother, Darwin, she did not need to be in the crate and could be trusted to have the freedom of the house overnight and when her family is out. She no longer steals and chews shoes but still loves a crunchy cicada snack whenever she can find one, but her absolute favorite treat is cheese.
Cassie will be a second dog in the Honors College and the third Garbutt dog to be in Pete’s Pet Posse. As Darwin gets older she will be a replacement for her older brother in therapy work.
