Honors Experiential Learning

OSU Honors xL: Experiential Learning

Experiential learning allows students to earn honors credit for meaningful, substantive activities that take them beyond the classroom.

A wide range of specified activities (arranged under the headings Academics, Arts, Leadership, Study Away, and Service) can qualify for honors points, and students can earn up to eleven points (equivalent to hours) through experiential learning credit. These points can be applied toward the General Honors Award requirements.

If you wish to pursue experiential learning credit, begin by browsing the list of approved activities. Then, submit a proposal via our online proposal form. All students whose proposals are accepted will be added to the Experiential Learning Online Community on D2L/Brightspace, which offers information about experiential learning, links to useful resources, and dropbox access.

Participating students are required to attend an experiential learning workshop during week 5 and to submit a reflective essay to the relevant D2L/Brightspace dropbox as soon as possible upon completion of their approved activity, and no later than 5 p.m. on Monday of Week 15 (or by Aug. 1, for summer experiences). Students must confirm completion of their approved activities using a verification form, which must also be submitted via D2L/Brightspace dropbox. Verification forms and reflective essays will be formally assessed by the Honors College (see instructions below), and credit will be awarded as appropriate.

If you have any questions about experiential learning, feel free to contact Dr. Frohock (richard.frohock@okstate.edu) or Dr. Miller (stephanie.j.miller@okstate.edu).
